Two Wingham-area residents convicted in a murder-for-hire plot are to be sentenced in Goderich Court today.
Anthony Terpstra and Serena Benninger were convicted on May 4th on charges of counselling to commit murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Testimony at their two week-long trial revealed the pair tried to hatch a plot to kill Terpstra’s wife Sheila.
Court learned that Terpstra and Benninger had been carrying on a relationship that lasted five years.
Terpstra testified he paid $10,000 and supplied pictures of his wife Sheila to an undercover police officer posing as a hitman in 2008.
Testimony revealed Terpstra told the officer he wanted Sheila “gone, dead, killed”.
Benninger’s lawyer told Court Terpstra was using his client’s unstable emotional state to try to steer her into the plot.
