After a busy weekend of Minor Lacrosse at the Kazarian Tournament, the Satellites Gymnastics Spring event and a big night at Hanover Raceway, I’m ready to take a deep breath and gear up for next weekend.
Friday, Saturday & Sunday will be singular in location as the Owen Sound Brick Brothers Volkswagen Selects are hosting the Ontario Midget Fastball Championship Tournament at Duncan McLellan Park.
Starting Friday afternoon at 5 pm and running through Sunday afternoon, 19 teams will compete for the Ontario title including the Wiarton Red Devils, the Walkerton Wild & the Brick Brothers Volkswagen Selects.
I didn’t see Brick Brothers play over the weekend against the Walkerton Wild, but the last time I saw them play they were great……and they were awful.
Last Tuesday, the Selects split a Bluewater Fastball League doubleheader at home, losing 12-6 to the Tara Merchants & then bouncing back to blank the Chepstow Aces 2-0.
The game with Chepstow was terrific.
Great pitching on both sides as Caleb Keeshig outlasted Dustin Veenhof, and Owen Sound manufactured the winning runs in a timely fashion in the bottom of the 6th.
The previous game against Tara was awful, Brick Bothers making a half dozen physical errors along with several mental blunders.
Suffice it to say, if the Volkswagen Midget Selects play like they did against the Chepstow Aces last week, they’ll go a long way.
If they play like they did against Tara, they won’t last long at the Ontario Midget Championship Tournament this week.
I’m Fred Wallace
