I know last weekend is well behind us, but really, what a terrific weekend for sports and community events in the region.
On Friday, I was at the Downtown Cops for Cancer event and in 40 quick minutes, they buzzed away enough hair to generate more than $ 23,000 for Bluewater Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society. Awesome
Over the weekend, Bluewater athletes garnered 5 medals at the OFSAA Track & Field Championship including 2 from Rita Rudell of Peninsula Shores in Wiarton who struck gold in the Senior Girls High Jump.
Jordan Collison of Saugeen District was also a Gold Medallist in the Open Boys Steeplechase.
Saturday afternoon was the Attack Barbeque and Awards Banquet.
Garrett Wilson was selected as the Attack MVP and was also named team captain for the year ahead. He’ll be a good captain.
Not only that, the Attack made a nice donation & pledge to the new Owen Sound Rec Centre and it was announced at that time that the lobby of the new facility would be named in honour of Attack Business Manager Ray McKelvie.
Ray couldn’t make it to Hanover Raceway Saturday, but Anthony Haughan did and won the Trevor Breadner Memorial Pace with ” Lyons Geoff ” in a time that was the third fastest in Hanover history and only 1/5th of a second off the track record.
How was your weekend ?
