There are big school reunions in the region this summer.
West Hill Secondary in Owen Sound is holding its 50th school reunion during the first weekend in July.
It’s also the same weekend for the reunion at Jean Vanier Catholic High School in Collingwood.
The high school started in 1985 with just a Grade 9 class of 39 students in the basement of St. Mary’s parish — with one principal and three teachers.
Vice Principal Bill Ironside says they added more classes each year, and by 1989 — the school had Grades 9 to 13.
Ironside notes there have been significant additions to the school in the past 15 to 20 years — the latest being a new building on Collins Street with over 30 classrooms.
He says over the past 25 years, there have been about 15 hundred students graduate from Jean Vanier.
Ironside says they are using the Internet, specifically facebook, to connect with past graduates.
Ironside says there will be pictures and memorabilia from past year set up as memory lanes in the halls of the school, so former students can reflect on past memories.
There’s also a scramble golf tournament on Friday July 2nd along with an open mic night later that evening for past graduates.
Ironside says the formal events start on Saturday, July 3rd.
He notes the school’s first ever principal, Jim Fox, will also be in attendance to kick off the reunion.
Ironside says all former graduates should go to Jean Vanier website for more information.
