A special celebration in Port Elgin.
The leader of the 2nd Port Elgin Girl Guides Peg Babineau says the local chapter is celebrating 100-years of guiding in Canada.
Babineau says in Port Elgin, guiding has been a service offered to the community since 1951.
Right now, some 40 young ladies are participating in different age categories.
Babineau says an open house is being held at Port Elgin Missionary Church, formerly the old arena on Saturday.
She says at one, the traditional advancement ceremony will be held for the girls but there are plenty of interactive displays and fun for everyone throughout the afternoon.
The leader of the 2nd Port Elgin Pathfinders Natasha Drummond says she’s looking forward to the special fashion show that will be put on.
Drummond says they will be featuring guiding outfits from years gone by but also general fashions of the past century.
Everyone is welcome to the free open house at Port Elgin Missionary Church from 1 PM to 4:30 PM on Saturday.
