Simcoe Grey’s MP Helena Guergis is demanding answers in the House of Commons about what criminal allegations the Conservative government has against her that led to her disgrace.
Guergis was ousted from the Tory caucus and lost her position as Minister of State for the Status of Women in early April.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper said at the time that a credible source had made serious allegations against her, and he referred the matter to the ethics commissioner and the RCMP.
A private investigator has publicly testified he had information about Guergis and her husband keeping company with a businessman convicted of fraud, but said he didn’t have any evidence of criminal wrongdoing on her part.
Guergis asked during Question Period to produce the letter his office had sent to the ethics commissioner, detailing the allegations against her.
Guergis now sits as an independent, in one of the back corners of the Commons.
Her question on Thursday was answered by Transport Minister John Baird, who repeated the phrase he’s been using for two months now, saying there were credible allegations that were forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
