The South West Local Health Integration Network has approved a motion for the phased redevelopment of the Kincardine Hospital.
The LHIN received the Business Case in January, and gave the South Bruce-Grey Health Board the good news at last week’s meeting.
South Bruce-Grey Health Centre CEO Paul Davies says it’s positive news, especially given the economic status of the province.
He says if you look at how many hospitals get redeveloped in a given year, it’s great news that it’s even at this step.
The first phase of the redevelopment would see areas considered “high priority” rebuilt to connect the Kincardine Hospital to the existing Kincardine Medical Clinic.
That would mean a brand new emergency department, ancillary services, lab, X-ray, and ambulatory care.
Phase two of the project would replace the remainder of the areas, including the inpatient wing.
Davies says the next step is for the MInistry of Health and Long-Term Care to review the plans and approve them.
He says the plans have already been submitted.
