Despite another potential roadblock, one wind turbine company is pushing ahead with plans for a huge 75 million dollar development in the area.
David Trimm is the Public Relations officer for International Power Canada, a firm that wants to put up 27 wind turbines in Grey Highlands and Melancthon Township.
Trimm says the company was certainly surprised by the actions of some area municipal councils to fight new wind turbines under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Arran Elderslie, Chatsworth and a couple of other councils have passed bylaws claiming the Ontario Green Energy act violates the Charter by taking away municipal powers.
However, Trimm doubts the move will have a severe impact on the timing of the projects.
International Power Canada is planning on 11 wind turbines in Grey Highlands and 7 more in Melancthon township, near Shelburne.
The company has received approval from the Ontario Power Authority and Trimm feels they could still meet the target of getting shovels in the ground later this summer.
The 75 million dollar project would provide about 27 hundred megawatts of power to the electrical system within about a years time.
