A range of projects designed to protect the waters of Lake Huron are receiving provincial funding through the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
10 initiatives ranging from agricultural water stewardship to education are receiving a total of 250 thousand dollars.
Agriculture Minister and Huron-Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell says the funding recognizes the environmental strides being made by a number of partners.
Mitchell says Huron-Bruce has the most environmental farm plan and source protection initatives in the province.
She says the projects are successful because of the number and quality of the partners involved including agriculture groups and Conservation Authorities.
Mitchell says the success of water stewardship projects depends on quality leadership.
Mitchell says all the policy in the world won’t work unless farmers and individual residents are willing to get involved to help protect their environment.
Mitchell says the region is fortunate in having so many people who recognize the importance of the Great Lakes.
Mitchell says the Youth Summit sponsored by the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority is a positive step toward the future of environmental protection.
Mitchell says whenever she talks with young people the thing they want to talk about most is the environment.
She says it’s important to engage young people in environmental pursuits and to impress on them the importance of working individually and as groups on the issue.
The funding announced in Goderich on Wednesday includes 150 thousand dollars for Huron County’s Clean Water Project.
The ABCA’s Youth Summit program is receiving 12 thousand dollars and eight other initiatives from Pine River to the Sarnia area are in line for grant amounts from 10 thousand to 20 thousand dollars.
