There are now seven piping plovers down at the main beach in Wasaga Beach.
Provincial Park Superintendent John Fisher says the program is off to a good start, and now that eggs are coming into play, they are moving onto the next phase.
There are also two nesting plover pairs so far as well.
Fisher says that there are 2 area’s closed off by fences against to protect the plovers, and their active nests.
The first is on Beach Area 1 near Spruce Street, then the second is further down near the end of the boardwalk.
Fisher says that there was also a volunteer meeting last night, which saw about 50 people come out to be trained.
He says that those volunteers play a huge role in the plover program, and Fisher says they are outside in all sorts of weather monitoring the plovers.
Fisher says that those volunteers also play an important role in educating people on the beach about the plovers too.
Fisher does tell us that the dog beach has been moved due to the plovers enclosures.
He says it’s now located riverside instead.
