An elderly woman is dead after a truck mounted a curb and crashed into a fence and tree along 10th Street East in Owen Sound.
The single vehicle crash occurred around 5:30 PM late Monday.
Police say it appears a westbound pickup truck mounted the curb, damaged 50 metres of chain link fence and hit a large tree near the corner of 10th Street and 4th Avenue East .
The fire department extricated a 75 year old Thornbury woman who was a passenger in the truck but she died a short time later.
No name has been released.
The driver — the woman’s 77 year old husband — suffered non life threatening injuries.
Police say alcohol was not a factor and both people were wearing seatbelts.
But officers plan to speak to more witnesses to find a cause to the crash.
10th Street was closed between 4th and 5th Avenue East for over three hours last night for the investigation.
