The sideroad 15 bridge near Sauble Beach has been closed for more than two years — but it is now scheduled to re-open in the fall.
South Bruce Peninsula has received a commitment from the federal government to cover half of the cost for a new Sideroad 15 bridge.
The 90 year old, single lane bridge has been closed for more than two years after it was condemned.
The federal government says it will spend up to 700 thousand dollars to help replace the steel bridge with a new two lane bridge.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will cover the other half.
The initial cost estimate for the project was 1.4 million dollars.
Mayor Gwen Gilbert says it’s a significant project for the town and they would not be able to replace the bridge without the feds help.
Gilbert notes once the bridge is open — it will create a much needed access route for residents.
The bridge is located between Bruce Road 8 and Spring Creek Road near Sauble Beach.
Construction is expected to begin in June once the environment assessment is done and the work should be complete in November.
