Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has released the name of man who died during an altercation with Grey county OPP.
The incident happened about 2:30 AM Monday.
The victim is identified as 24-year-old Darren Burnside of RR # 2 Holland Centre.
The SIU says Burnside was fatally shot during interaction with officers from the Ontario Provincial Police.
It happened when officers responded to a report of shots being fired at a residence near West Back Line and Sideroad 80 between Holland Centre and Markdale.
Police say there was interaction with Burnside, and he was fatally shot.
A post mortem was done on Tuesday, May 11th at University Hospital in London, but no details are being released.
Five investigators and three forensic investigators are investigating this incident.
The SIU has identified one subject police officer and 12 witness officers in the case.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Visitation is in Markdale at the May Funeral Home on Friday May 14th from 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM.
Cremation to follow.
A time of reflection and sharing of memories will be held at the Flesherton Kinplex on Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM.
