A new poll that targets 20 ridings in Ontario including Huron-Bruce, shows trouble for Dalton McGuinty’s Liberals in the next election.
It was paid for by the Ontario Community Pharmacies coalition, which is fighting changes the move by Queens Park to eliminate so called “professional allowances”.
Those allowances are a crucial source of funding from generic drug makers and pharmacists say the cut will reduce health services, lead to cuts in pharmacy hours and produce longer wait times.
Spokesperson Donnie Edwards says in Huron Bruce riding, the poll shows 3 in 5 people questioned feel Carol Mitchell’s failure to speak out against the change … will hurt her in the next election in October 2011.
In Grey, Bruce and Simcoe counties, Edwards says 70 percent of those polled say cutting pharmacy hours will cause difficulty for people in the community.
Edwards says patients trust their local pharmacists and this issue will stick in the minds of voters for a long time.
