Compost criminals have forced Owen Sound to make some changes to the operating hours of the composting facility.
Environmental Superintendent Chris Hughes says because of ongoing issues with inappropriate materials being deposited at the Compost Site, the City will begin controlling the gate to eliminate after-hours use of the site.
He says that all sorts of construction material and other non compostable stuff is being dumped at the site during night, so the site now will be closed during the overnight hours.
Hughes says beginning on May 17th — the City will begin closing the Compost Site gate at the end of each day.
Operating hours will be from 8:30 AM to 8 PM seven days per week.
He says this schedule will continue until the site is closed for the season after the last of the leaves have fallen.
Hughes says if anyone sees someone dumping non compostable material at the site, they should try to get a licence plate number so the city can move forward and charge and fine the compost criminals.
