The massive sewer project in Southampton is both ahead of schedule and within budget.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says the early spring meant the work to install sanitary sewers north of the Saugeen River was able to get underway sooner than expected.
Three of the contractors are on site with the fourth expected to start next month.
Smith also says they are almost finished the archaeological assessment of the entire project area and have so far discovered no other artifacts.
A find was made in April almost as soon as construction began at the corner of South Rankin Street and Shore Road, at Scubby`s Point.
Work at the site was stopped and Smith says they are still waiting for a report from the Saugeen Ojibway Nation about how they want to move forward.
Smith says overall the project is being well received by the residents in the area, but he recognizes having your roads ripped up and big machines around can be a hassle.
He says there have been some issues over boundary lines but for the most part everyone is being very understanding.
The 20.1 million dollar North End Sewer Project is expected to take all year and wrap up in early 2011 – it must be finished by March 31st in order to qualify for government funding.
