Owen Sound Police have announced the winners of this years Chiefs Citation awards.
Police Chief Tom Kaye says Doug Richardson of the Chatsworth area, will be receiving his citation for his bravery and selfless actions in assisting the victim of a purse snatch, which occurred on 2nd Avenue East, in May 2009.
Richardson confronted the male suspects whom he observed fleeing after knocking down a female and forcefully stealing her purse. One suspect was armed with a knife.
While attempting to intervene, Mr. Richardson was assaulted by the suspects and received knife wounds to his hands.
The second person being honoured is Tom McKay who will receive his citation for his long-standing commitment to the Owen Sound Police Services Citizens on Patrol (C.O.P.) program.
McKay is one of the founding members and is the first and only Chairman of the C.O.P. program during the 16 year history and his commitment to the program has had a direct impact on the long-term success of the C.O.P. program.
Rogers TV is receiving a citation for their long-standing commitment to not only Owen Sound Police Service community and charity events but to the community as a whole.
