Embattled MP Helena Guergis is speaking out about her troubles.
Guergis appeared in an interview with CBC’s Peter Mansbridge and says she still doesn’t know what the allegations were that led to her being kicked out of the federal Conservative Caucus.
Guergis says she pleaded with the Prime Minister to detail the allegations against her, but he advised her to talk to a lawyer with the Conservative party. She says that lawyer wouldn’t tell her much, either.
Toward the end of a 21-minute interview aired on CBC, Guergis cried for a few seconds when she told Mansbridge that some people have suggested she ditch her husband, Rahim Jaffer, since her troubles appear to have begun with him.
Guergis says she won’t.
Guergis admits to cursing at workers at the Charlottetown airport, but denies any wrongdoing in the rest of the scandal swirling around her.
Guergis says she and her husband don’t have any offshore accounts.
She says Jaffer has not lobbied the government.
Guergis says he did not use her office or her equipment for his private business.
She also denies taking drugs, except for one attempt when she was 14, involving marijuana.
She says it made her cough.
Guergis’ husband was arrested in September and faced cocaine possession charges until the charges were dropped at a court appearance in March.
Documents released in recent weeks show Jaffer met with government officials in Guergis’ office on Parliament Hill, and that he used an email address assigned to her.
