The Ontario Chamber of Commerce and local Chambers of Commerce are working together to help Ontario businesses comply with Ontario’s new customer service standard.
General Manager of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce Joanne Robbins says they will be assisting local businesses to become certified in the Accessibility Works program.
Robbins says the web-based information session provided by the Ontario Chamber will be free to businesses.
She says they will teach business owners how to comply and how to report back to the government.
The customer service standard is first and is one of five that will form part of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Transportation and accessibility are other areas that will be addressed in the years ahead.
Robbins says the chamber staff have already taken some courses to meet the needs of the act.
Website training will be available later this fall in order to help businesses prepare for the January 1, 2012 compliance date for all private sector organizations.
The goal is to have businesses throughout Ontario better serve the growing population of people with all types of disabilities.
