South Bruce Peninsula is looking for help in paying for renovations to the Wiarton and District Community Centre and Arena.
But Georgian Bluffs isn’t interested in lending any help.
South Bruce Peninsula is one of several municipalities who are promised federal and provincial funding for projects like arena expansions.
The 2.14 million dollar project in Wiarton is slated to get more than 1.4 million dollars, leaving the municipality responsible for the other 714 thousand.
In the letter to Georgian Bluffs, it was noted that residents there are involved in programs at the Wiarton arena, like minor hockey.
But Councillor Ryan Thompson — who is chair of the Georgian Bluffs recreation committee — points out that South Bruce Peninsula residents take part in activities at Georgian Bluffs facilities like the Shallow Lake Community Centre.
And Georgian Bluffs hasn’t gone to South Bruce Peninsula looking for assistance in paying for the ongoing renovations there.
As far as he’s concerned, Thompson says the municipalities should each look after their own projects without the other’s assistance, and the rest of council agreed with him.
Besides, Georgian Bluffs has already agreed to make a financial contribution toward the regional recreation centre in Owen Sound, although the amount of that contribution has yet to be determined.
