What looks to be the end of the line for Helena Guergis in Simcoe Grey.
There are reports the Riding Association and the MP have been told Guergis will not be a candidate for the Tories in the in the next federal election.
CTV says the local association and Guergis were informed of the decision by the Conservative National Council yesterday afternoon.
The news came in response to a strongly worded letter from the riding association’s executive to the Council and the Prime Minister, demanding clarity on Guergis’ future as a candidate.
The National Council reportedly says it made the announcement to the riding association because it needs to have a candidate in place for an election that could take place at any time.
There has been no annoucement of Guergis’ replacement as candidate, but there has been speculation a high-profile orthopaedic surgeon from Toronto — Doctor Kellie Leitch — might be parachuted in to try for the seat in the next federal vote.
