Even though spring came early and has been warmer and drier than normal, you still have to wait a little longer for most of the Wasaga Beach provincial parks to open.
Parks Superintendent John Fisher tells us most of their staff is students so they can’t start work until school’s out.
But Fisher says some contract positions start in April and May and staff opened Beach One on Easter weekend.
He tells us garbage you may have seen around parks 2, 5 and 6 will be cleaned up and the public washrooms and parking lots will be open by May 14.
Parks 3 and 4 will open June 18.
Fisher says garbage bins are removed from all parks during the winter, but the garbage you may have seen strewn around is because dog walkers throw the poop bags into the cement culverts used to safely dispose of charcoal and that garbage overflows and ends up on the ground.
Fisher says he’s looking forward to a warmer and drier summer as predicted by Environment Canada.
He adds our area needs a good summer to boost tourism after two consecutive wet and cool summers.
