It seems many residents in Saugeen Shores are ready to push on with plans for a new pool.
Monteith Brown Planning and Consultants informed residents about the three options they presented to council back in February.
The cheapest option is to renovate Centennial Pool at Saugeen Shores District Secondary to the tune of three million dollars.
But many with young families say they don’t want to wait for the school board’s decision on what to do with the school – a decision that may not come until 2011.
That option wouldn’t include extra amenities at the pool, such as a walking track or splash pad, something most of those in attendance say they want.
But Mayor Mike Smith says the option isn’t off the table just yet.
The other two options would come in around 10 million dollars or more, and mean defecits in operating costs.
One would see an addition built on the Plex, and the third option would be to create a new stand-alone facility.
Smith says these are big financial considerations, and people need to look at what 10 million dollars could mean in sectors other than recreation.
He also says it’s inevitable that council will have to generate a Recreation Master Plan first.
But Smith adds the public feedback is important, and council will now have to look at whether the majority of the community wants to rule out renovating Centennial Pool
