A big meeting at Owen Sound Council tonight regarding phase two of the Regional Rec Complex.
The session begins at 7:30 PM and two members of Council tell Bayshore Broadcasting News, it’s an important meeting that should not to be missed.
It was expected that a tender would simply be awarded for the next phase, but now it’s unclear what’s happening.
Rumours are swirling late today, that the cost of the project is spiking because of another glitch.
Tune into Bayshore Broadcasting News for the latest on the 38 million dollar project on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, Owen Sound Minor Soccer is planning a seventh field at it’s complex on the east side of the city.
And fill from the Regional Rec Centre will be used for the project.
Councillor and Recreation Centre Steering Committee Chair Jim McManaman says it is a win-win situation.
The idea saves a bit of time and money on the Rec project, since construction crews have only a short distance to haul fill from Victoria park to the Kiwanis soccer complex.
It also provides a cheap source of fill for the soccer field being developed.
McManaman says the field should be developed this summer, seeded in the fall and should be ready for use in the fall of 2011.
It replaces the field Owen Sound Minor soccer is losing, at the site of the new Regional rec centre.
