Owen Sound historian Paula Niall has been honoured by city council.
Niall recently received the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for her outstanding contribution to the preservation, protection and promotion of heritage in the province.
She was one of 19 people to receive the award, for which she was nominated by the city.
She was specifically cited for being the founding president of the Owen Sound Historical Society and for her research of black history in Grey County, work that is part of a permanent display at Grey Roots.
She was also instrumental in the saving of the birthplace of Billy Bishop and its eventual commemoration as a museum and national historic site.
And her work is far from complete.
She continues to toil away at various projects, sometimes working between 8 and 12 hours a day.
