Christmas is ” the most wonderful time of the year “.
But for a large portion of our broadcast region, those with horses and those who love harness racing, an equally special time of the year begins Saturday as Hanover Raceway opens up for the season.
As always, on the brink of the campaign, there’s plenty to talk about, but a couple of things stand out to me.
Number 1, eventually Frank Salive returns to Hanover as the track announcer, effective May 29th.
Frank departed for Pompano in Florida late last year, but his schedule permits him to return to Hanover for most of 2010 and make no mistake, that’s huge for Hanover.
The other note, one that struck me as curious, is that the summer racing program at Hanover on Wednesday nights will be up against both Grand River & Georgian Downs this year.
In an industry that attempts, and in many cases needs to be protective of territories, this strikes me as being counter productive.
The officials at Hanover Raceway don’t see it as such, with their abilities to simulcast from Georgian & Grand River they think their summer season will be every bit as good, if not better, than ever.
Post Time throughout the season is 7:15 pm.
I’m Fred Wallace
