It is a huge accomplishment for the fundraising committee for the Rotary Accessible Playground being built in Southampton.
Saugeen Shores Director of Community Services Mike Myatt says they are within reach of their 350 thousand dollar goal.
In fact at this time they are only 10 thousand short and Myatt expects that final amount will come in over the next few weeks with impending donations from various sources.
Myatt says hats off to the fundraising committee and the advisory committee who have done a magnificent job.
He says the support generated in the community has been amazing, with contractors, businesses, service clubs, and private donors stepping up.
Meanwhile, Myatt is also happy to report that construction of the playground at Jubilee Park is moving right along and is actually 2 or 3 weeks ahead of schedule.
Phase 1 is almost complete with the accessible pathways now being poured and once they;re ready the playground equipment installers will be called in.
Myatt says Phase 2 will then get underway shortly and the main focus there will be the planting of the Bruce Power Sensory Garden.
Other details include making the washrooms fully accessible, re-shingling the washroom and picnic shelter, and paving 4 parking spots.
Myatt says although they are ahead of schedule now they are still aiming for the original opening date of June 28th.
He says they want to make sure everything is done and looking great for the big ribbon cutting.
Myatt encourages families to mark the date on their calendars and come out to see the first playground of its kind in Bruce County.
