A Hanover teen continues to do her town proud.
17 year old Megan Schlorff has returned from Houston, Texas with a silver medal after competing in the International Sustainable World Energy Environment and Engineering Project Olympiad.
Schlorff was one of three Canadians to attend the international science competition.
Her project Down the Drain, Only to Resurface Again,’ won her a silver medal in the senior environmental category.
This is the same project that took Schlorff to Paris, France as Canada’s lone representative in another international science event last year.
The project identifies that even after being municipally treated many antibacterial compounds found in personal care products and antibacterial soap are not completely filtered out of the waste water before being released into the environment.
Schlorff says she received a lot of positive feedback on her project in Houston and was able to make a lot of new friends.
Now that Schlorff is back on Canadian soil — she has no plans to slow down.
The Sacred Heart high school student is planning to apply to compete in the 2011 International Science and Engineering Fair.
The international competition will be held in the United States.
