The race is heating up for the mayor’s job in The Blue Mountains.
There’s already three contenders, not including Mayor Ellen Anderson herself who’s already announced she will be running again.
Paul Mitchell is retired from a 40 year business career including his operation of a lighting store in Thornbury.
He says he’s been attending council meetings for the past seven years and it seems to him the taxpayers haven’t been getting a fair shake.
Marshall Heatherington would like to see more fiscal responsibility and an emphasis put on smaller projects like the medical clinic — rather than the new town hall which he calls a shrine.
He feels the current regime is guilty of not supporting individuals’ needs.
And Sheldon Rosen likely has the highest profile of the candidates as owner of Lodges at Blue Mountain.
He’s currently embroiled in a battle with the town over short term rentals that has gone to an OMB appeal.
Rosen contends tourism is the future of Blue Mountains and the town is doing nothing to help attract visitors.
He says recent events such as the skins game and the physicians hockey tournament were simply held in the town because that’s where those organizations chose to hold them — not because of any special planning by local officials.
Candidates have until September 10th to file their papers for the October 6th municipal election.
