The Saugeen Shores Fire Department is heading to the G8 Summit in Huntsville.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says they are the only department from Grey Bruce asked to help provide fire protection services during the meeting of world leaders.
Eagleson says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office recommended Saugeen Shores to Huntsville because of their training records, capabilities, equipment, and ability to let some firefighters go out of town without affecting the level of service within town or with the Bruce County Mutual Aid program.
Eagleson says 8 Saugeen Shores firefighters and one of their pumpers will be in Huntsville from June 23rd to the 26th.
Crews of 4 will man the truck in 12 hour shifts for 96 consecutive hours.
Eagleson says the firefighters haven`t been selected yet but there is a huge interest.
Huntsville will provide meals and accommodation for the Saugeen Shores personnel and will also pay the municipality $38,400.
Saugeen Shores expects net revenue for their services to be 26 thousand dollars.
