The husband of Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis denies ever lobbying the government on behalf of his company.
Former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer was in the hot seat Wednesday before a Commons committee looking into accusations of improper lobbying.
Jaffer testified any conversations he had with Ministers, MP’s or Senators never went beyond social chit chat about his new career in business.
Jaffer also choked up briefly as he apologized to his wife for embroiling Guergis in his problems.
After allegations of influence peddling were made public — Guergis resigned as Status of Women minister and was expelled from the Tory caucus.
Jaffer also said he never used illegal drugs.
Jaffer was arrested while driving home from a business dinner last September and was charged with drunk driving and possession of cocaine.
Those charges were eventually dropped and he paid a 500 dollar fine for careless driving.
