Bayshore Broadcasting News has learned Saugeen First Nation Chief Randall Kahgee is going to stand for re-election as chief.
The First Nation community will be going to the polls in June.
Kahgee will be going after a third 2-year term.
Chief Kahgee says he feels his work is not completed.
He says there are issues to address locally, regionally and federally.
On the local front, Chief Kahgee says they’ve been working hard on relationships with neighbours.
Regionally Kahgee says with the number of energy developments proposed and other issues in their territory, they need to assure that what he calls “Rules of Engagement” are followed.
He says he wants to make sure the interests of First Nation peoples are being protected.
Chief Kahgee says he’s not done with the province either when it comes to the pending Harmonized Sales Tax.
He says he has informed several ministers that the HST will further marginalize the most dis-possessed people in the country.
Kahgee calls the HST the most agressive legislation he’s seen in recent memory.
He says there was no opportunity for the First Nations to bring their concerns forward on how it will affect them.
