West Grey is pushing up it’s development fees, but will stage the increases over five years.
The new fees are coming to council today for approval.
Consultant Sid Morehouse wanted council to raise the development charge on new homes to 4,448 dollars — from the current two thousand dollars.
At a public meeting last Monday — Council decided to implement increases of 250 dollars a year in each of the next five years, beginning May 1st.
At the same time, the consultant was recommending users of water and sewer services in Durham and Neustadt pay between 7 and 9 thousand dollars in addition to the higher development fee.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says that idea was nixed completely.
Eccles says they already have a capital surcharge on monthly billings that help cover new water and sewer services.
The West Grey mayor says the developers he spoke with were pleased the development fee would be staggered over the next few years, and not jump suddenly to over 44 hundred dollars.
The fees will be reviewed in 5 years time.
