As the regional recreation centre in Owen Sound moves ahead, so too do the city’s seniors.
Members of the senior centre ad hoc committee are still meeting to determine how seniors will be accommodated in the wake of the decision late last year not to incorporate a seniors centre into the new rec centre.
One idea that’s gained a great deal of traction is to join forces with the Bluewater Association for Lifelong Learning (BALL) and establish a base in a building next to the Bayshore Community Centre.
The building is no longer occupied and is on conservation authority land held by Owen Sound on a long term lease.
City/County Councillor Arlene Wright says the building could be used as an office to coordinate seniors activities.
Grants may be available, for upgrades to the building and possibly to pay the salary for an activities co ordinator.
Council has agreed to allow the seniors centre committee to use the building free of charge until the end of the year.
