165 Provincial Police detachments and police services will be out in full force for the next two weeks for the spring seatbelt campaign.
It runs from April 14th to the 25th.
In OPP jurisdictions this year 11 people have lost their lives as a result of not wearing their restraints — many more were injured.
Grey County OPP want to increase the rate of seatbelt and proper child car seat usage.
A properly used child booster seat reduces a childs’ risk of injury by as much as 75 per cent.
Officers will be participating in a roadside seatbelt/car seat check from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM today on 16th Avenue East in Owen Sound.
Later that day the Grey County OPP and West Grey officers will also conduct seat belt checks on highway 6 at the North end of Durham.
Seatbelt non-compliance draws a 235 dollar fine and two demerit points.
In last years campaign Grey County OPP checked nearly 23 thousand vehicles, 223 were charged for failing to wear seatbelts and two were charged with improper child restraints.
Across Ontario over a million vehicles were checked, with a total of 7,490 charges laid.
