The city of Owen Sound is looking for your input during the development of a transportation master plan.
Manager of Engineering Services Chris Webb says a public workshop will be held tonight.
Webb says they want to hear what the public thinks the focus should be as far as accommodating the various modes of transportation in the city.
While that will include everything from motorized vehicles, public transit, and pedestrians – Webb feels cycling is going to get a lot of attention.
Grey County recently turned down Owen Sound’s request to create bicycle lanes near Harrison Park.
Webb says the plan was to install the lanes along Grey Road 5 – or 2nd Avenue East – from the Harrison Park entrance to 6th Street East.
But the county ruled there were safety issues because the road is not wide enough.
Webb expects a lot of people will want to talk about that but he stresses tonight’s workshop is about the overall plan and not specific issues.
He says once the city has gauged the public’s interest in incorporating active transportation modes they will then move on to figuring out how and where to do it.
The public meeting will be held from 6 PM to 9 PM in the auditorium of the Owen Sound North Grey Union Public Library.
