A new noise control bylaw has come into effect in Saugeen Shores.
Council approved the bylaw at Monday night’s meeting.
Mayor Mike Smith says he has talked to Police Chief Dan Rivett about the bylaw and says police feel comfortable with enforcing it.
Through the new rules amplified noise – like loud music, tv’s radios etc is not allowed between 10 PM and 8 AM Sunday through Thursday in zones other than residential. (prohibited at all times in restricted zones)
Friday and Saturday – it’s prohibited between midnight and 8am.
Excessive noise from squealing tires, construction and the use of loud tools, lawn mowers etc. is not allowed between 9 PM and 8 AM on any given day.
Smith says noise is mostly caused from tourists who visit the area.
Smith adds although the bylaw is geared more towards the summer season, it will be in effect year round.
He says police will educate the public about the new rules before they enforce it.
Smith says Chief Rivett has been working to try to make a bylaw appeal to residents and businesses.
