A public meeting is being held today to review development charges in West Grey.
Consultant Sid Morehouse is calling on council to raise the development charge on new homes to $4,448 dollars.
Under the current bylaw which expires at the end of this month , the development fee in West Grey is only 2 thousand dollars.
At the same time, the consultant is recommending users of water and sewer services in Durham and Neustadt pay between 7 and 9 thousand dollars in addition to the higher development fee.
All new residential construction is also subject to a 23 hundred dollar Grey county development charge.
West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles says it is up to council to determine the development fees, and any new fees for sewer and water hookups.
He expects to hear concerns from developers at Mondays’ meeting, that higher fees will slow down any new construction in the community.
The public meeting is in the West Grey council chambers in Durham beginning at 2:30 PM today.
