Bruce Power is hoping to keep Huron County in the loop, after a string of unfortunate events in the past year.
Vice President of Corporate Affairs Murray Elston says just four per cent of their full time employees live in Huron County, but many of their contracted workers are from this area.
Elston says they want to keep council informed of their goings-on, after some issues with alpha radiation, restart delays and layoffs due to employees not following their code of conduct.
He says the Bruce was the first to encounter alpha radiation in such large amounts, but they’re learning more about it as the Bruce one and two restart project continues.
The alpha radiation was a surprise to Bruce Power as its not usually experienced by people because it can only be experienced through inhaling or ingesting it.
Elston says they’re a bit behind schedule on the restart projects, but they’re looking at refurbishing units three through eight as well.
He says that will offer more opportunities for Huron County workers.
