Its all about the arts – the performing arts – in Grey County.
Since 1932 Grey County has held a Kiwanis Music Festival and this year the event is as stellar as years gone by.
Adjudicator and performer Lesley Andrews says the talent in Owen Sound and Grey County on the whole is excellent and top notch.
Andrews has adjudicated at Kiwanis festivals across the county and returns to Owen Sound from the London area to judge some of this years events.
The festival is spread out over two weeks and runs until the 16th at different venues throughout Owen Sound.
Andrews says it is a shame in the age of technology the arts have fallen by the wayside – that people are losing their ability to express their feelings without a screen in front of them
She adds the Kiwanis Music Festival helps keep the arts alive and the art of expression.
The Kiwanis Festivals is open to all to go and watch the competitions.
Andrews has spearheaded a fundraising concert to raise money to go towards the Grey County Kiwanis Festival.
Andrews – who lives in London – wanted to give back to Grey County as she knows festivals and the art world are struggling and she wants to do her part to make sure the festival stays alive and well.
She also says the talent in Grey County is excellent for performing arts as are the teachers.
The concert takes place tonight at the Division Street United Church starting at 7:30 PM
Andrews says the concert has taken about a year to prepare for and headlines the Owen Sound Children’s Chorus – the Youth Theatre Coalition as well as Andrews herself who is a vocalist.
Andrews stresses one hundred percent of the proceeds go to the Kiwanis Festival as the event at times can be expensive to put on with bringing in the adjudicators – hall rentals and more.
Tickets are available before the event at the Downtown bookstore – they are also available at the door.
