The deadline has passed and a number of students from Grade 7 to 12 in Grey Bruce have submitted silent films.
The contest is sponsored by the silent film ensemble of Owen Sound and the Roxy theatre.
Films are 5 to 15 minutes in length and now the orchestral ensemble will write a score to the film that will be preformed live at the silent film festival.
Silent Film Ensemble Director Josh Richardson says the silent film festival featuring the youth films will be presented at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound on April 30th.
Richardson says the festivals will feature the silent youth film at the beginning of the evening and the second will feature Buster Keaton’s classic “The General”.
Richardson says the composition of the score is a collaborative effort with the entire ensemble from strings to piano.
Richardson notes there were no restrictions on the topic of the film to be submitted – although the Keaton film is based on the railway system.
With each submission students receive a ticket for themselves and a guest to attend the event.
