A 41 year old Owen Sound man will be back in a Sarnia courtroom June 21st for the continuation of his preliminary hearing on a charge of murder.
There were 5 days of testimony late last month before the hearing was adjourned.
When the hearing resumes in June, a forensic scientist will be on the stand.
The preliminary hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to send the man to trial.
His name is not being released because at the time of the crime he was only 15.
The accused is charged in a 26 year old murder investigation in Petrolia.
In October 1983, 70 year old Velma Thompson was found sexually assaulted and stabbed to death at her Petrolia home.
For years the case was open as OPP followed up leads.
In June of 2008, the suspect was arrested in Owen Sound where he has lived for several years.
Inspector Ian Maule tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, the suspect was a person of interest since 2001 but he had not been questioned by police prior to his arrest in the Scenic city.
The Owen Sound man faces charges of 1st degree murder and aggravated sexual assault.
The suspect was released on bail over a year ago.
