A lack of snow over the winter, and now several weeks with no rain have led fire officials to issue warnings about open fires.
Meaford Fire Department tells Bayshore Broadcasting News that it is tinder dry in the area and a fire ban is in effect this holiday weekend in the municipality of Meaford.
Meanwhile, it is the start of the wildfire season and Northern Bruce peninsula has had 3 wild fires already that local fire crews have responded to.
The water table is down about 30 inches and with no significant rain expected for the next few days the fire hazard is high on the Bruce.
Officials are asking residents to be extremely careful with fire and ensure they adhere to all conditions of their fire permits.
Cottage owners are encouraged to take yard materials to the dump, rather than burning the material in their yard.
