Georgian Bluffs is looking to raise funds for the arena renovations in Shallow Lake.
The project has been ongoing for several months at a cost of just over one million dollars.
Georgian Bluffs wants to raise 100 thousand dollars from the community to help pay for the municipality’s portion of the cost.
Two thirds of the project has been subsidized by the federal and provincial governments.
Councillor Ryan Thompson is the chair of the municipality’s Recreation Committee.
He says one possibility for fundraising is the selling of naming or sponsorship rights for dressing rooms, the ice surface or even the entire building.
Thompson says all donated funds are welcome — but he says they are looking for larger donors like corporations or service clubs as well.
Thompson is also a member of the steering committee in charge of building the regional recreation centre in Owen Sound — a project which is also seeking millions of dollars from the public.
But Thompson points out both are worthy projects, as were the recent renovations at the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library.
Anyone interested in making a donation toward the Shallow Lake Community Centre Building Fund can do so at the municipal office in Springmount.
