The Owen Sound and District Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting Thursday night as David Moyer starts the second year of his term as President.
He says he’s looking forward to a better 2010, noting that 2009 was a challenging 12-month period.
Moyer says the chamber represents a progressive and aggressive business community, and it will continue to press local governments on issues that are important to that community.
Such issues include tax rates, which have been characterized as outrageously high.
Moyer says both the city and county governments have a responsibility to look for efficiencies to ensure that tax rates are fair for both businesses and residents.
A failure to find those efficiencies, he says, will only discourage people from living and setting up businesses here.
Jay Cox remains on the chamber’s board of directors as past president.
Joanne Horton is the vice-president of the chamber and Traci Smith is the treasurer.
Also remaining on the board are Jeremy Miller, Stephanie Murray and Bob Switzer.
New to the board this year are Andy VanDolder, Keith Hopkins, Debbie McKague and Steve Coffey.
Retiring from the board are Paul Neville, Michael Forcier (for-see-yay) and Harry Wagter.
