South Bruce Council and administrative staff have brought in a zero tax rate increase budget for taxpayers.
Deputy Mayor Carl Zettel says he expects the document they now have on file to be formally approved at Tuesday night’s regular council meeting.
Zettel says there were three things they couldn’t control — the drop in the Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding; the police budget and a drop in the interest they earned on reserves.
It left them looking at a shortfall of 205 thousand dollars and a huge increase in taxes to cover it.
Zettel says the zero-rate increase means taxpayers will pay exactly the same as last year, unless their assessment has gone up.
If so, then there will be a slight increase in corresponding taxes.
