Owen Sound residents can start checking the city’s police website to find out what kinds of crimes are prevalent in their neighbourhoods.
New crime analysis software is up and running which shows all the occurrences and where they happened over the pasts 30 days.
Deputy Police Chief Bill Sornberger says the types of incidents that will appear on the map will be related to property, including break and enters, mischief, stolen vehicles and thefts from cars.
He says it not only helps the police service focus their resources in a certain area its also beneficial to residents.
Sornberger says it would likely be helpful to know whether your neighbourhood has seen a rash of thefts from vehicles recently — or vandalism — anything that may get you to take additional precautions or keep your eyes open.
The cost of the software was defrayed thanks to a co operative effort with several other police forces.
Sornberger says it cost about 84 hundred dollars.
To have a look at the map and see what’s happening in your neighbourhood go online to www.owensoundpolice.com and look for the ‘crime stats’ map.
