Clearview Township council has weighed in on the controversial issue of wind turbines.
Councillors voted unanimously Monday night in favour of asking the province to put a moratorium on any new wind developments.
The gallery in the council chambers was standing room only with over 50 people waiting for the decision.
The vote drew applause and cheers from the crowd.
Clearview council now joins over 50 other Ontario municipalities in passing such a resolution.
This one was put forward by Councillor Thom Paterson.
Paterson says he’s not surprised that all of colleagues supported his motion.
And he says he’s thankful all of council understands the need for the province to act now and slow the process so proper studies on health effects and how viable this technology is can be done.
Paterson says as support for a moratorium grows among Ontario municipalities, the resolutions won’t just end up as a stack of papers on a desk, but will prompt the government to listen to Ontarians and do something now before it’s too late.
