Two public meetings are planned for this week, as the town of Meaford gathers feedback before finalizing this years’ budget.
Treasurer David Kennedy says they are pretty well done, but council wanted to get any last minute suggestions from ratepayers, before closing the books on spending for 2010.
The spending estimates are 11.3 million dollars, up about 1.5 million dollars from last year.
However, Kennedy says because Grey county has a tax decrease of 0.1608 percent (very minor decrease), the overall impact on Meaford taxpayers is an increase of just under 5 per cent.
The first public meeting is tonight, in the Meaford Hall at 7 PM.
A second public meeting is set for tomorrow at 7 PM in the Woodford Hall.
Kennedy says council will then meet on Wednesday, March 24th at 5 PM for a final look at the budget, but it won’t be finalized until April 12th.
