Hanover municipal services are now available to all.
The town has just completed its Accessible Customer Service Policy.
CAO Mike Dunlop says the provincially mandated policy guarantees that any person with any form of disability will receive municipal services in an equal manner.
Dunlop says this is long overdue, noting that even though Hanover has boasted a fairly good track record in this area he says there is always room for improvement.
The customer service accessible policy goes well beyond physical barriers and includes attitudes.
To date 97 percent of Hanovers staff and volunteers have received specialized training in this area.
Dunlop says it has been a tremendous effort but well worth it.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act will effect more than just municipalities.
It will begin to roll out to the public sector in 2012 with a longer range plan in place for physical changes right up to 2025.
The recent approval by Grey County to partner with Hanover to have audible pedestrian signals installed at two key intersections will further advanced the towns accessibility policy.
